He’s not even tired when Eddie sits down, still grinning at him, and he flops down in the grass too. “You want to play tag?” he asks, and Evan can only nod wordlessly.Įddie and he play tag for what seems like hours, and Evan’s loud and laughing like he’s never done before. “Hi! You’re here! I’m Eddie and I’m so pleased to meet you at last!”Įvan’s never had anyone smile to see him, let alone be pleased to meet him and he’s a bit dumbstruck, until Eddie laughs at him - not at him, not unfriendly, rather, in a way that makes Evan’s own lips lift in a smile, makes him feel at home - grabs his hand and pulls him towards the large field he’s just come from. “Hi!” he calls out as he comes running over to Evan. He smiles at Evan so wide on the first time they meet. His friend is another boy, a little older than him, with dark hair and eyes. He doesn’t even know what makes a friend a friend, so he guesses maybe he’s not as idiotic as he feels every single moment he’s awake. ![]() So finding a friend, his first ever friend, in his dreams is something he’s not expecting. He already knows his parents don’t like him much, that getting hurt and in trouble is the best way to make them notice him, that if Maddie wasn’t around he could go for days without being spoken to.
